The mapmaker interprets portions of what is skewed by what they perceive. Maps demarcate relation, building a topography of how differences are connected in space. The map exists as a spatial artifact, where relational elements of a contained area are scaled to fit inside of it. But maps are not directions, and it’s easy to get lost if you don’t know how you relate to the overwhelming amount of information.
I am searching for my bearings, releasing the need for accuracy amidst the blurry manifold interpretations of reality; pondering whether previously charted territory is any better than uncharted territory. Hoping for a map forward, I attempt to find commonality between what I perceive and what you perceive. I’m learning to embrace being lost, not because I’m off track, but because I’ve stopped trying to get anywhere other than where I am.
